I’ve decided to test out New Relic for no other reason then I’m interested in what the server is doing and it’s something that I wanted to know how to do. It has nothing at all to do with the free trip to New York they are giving away this month. Nothing. Honest.
One of the things that always seems to happen with my Media Temple hosting is the memory goes off the charts!
It’s only hosting a couple of wordpress sites and none of them are really doing any massive transfers, so why it goes crazy every now and then I just don’t know.
Now that I’ve set up New Relic though I will know about it. They offer a bunch of fairly self explanatory reports including
- CPU Usage
- Mem Usage
- Database Usage
you get the picture.
One of the really cool bits is you can publicly embed some of your reports if you so desired
I’m looking at putting together a linode server to host node.js and phantom.js to offer screen shots for the responsive preview tool, I’ll probably set New Relic up on that one as it’s bound to have a lot more requests than my other sites.
If anyone has any awesome dashboard recommendations for me please tweet me or leave them in the comments.
